This isn’t a time for skinny jeans or stilettos; instead, focus on choosing clothing that will keep you warm/cool/dry/protected as needed and won’t restrict movement if you have lots of walking planned for the day (or if there are stairs involved).
It’s a good idea to wear comfortable, casual clothing on your tour. Wear something that you don’t mind getting dirty (or wet).

If you’re planning a trip to Italy, it’s important to know what the weather is like so you can pack accordingly. The best thing is to check the weather forecast before you leave home. It’s also important to be aware of what time of year it is when planning your trip because this will affect what clothing and footwear should be worn.
Italy has four main seasons:
Winter (December-February) – Winter in Italy is generally mild with little rain, although temperatures can fall as low as 0°C in January or February. Snow falls in the Alps and Apennines but rarely elsewhere in the country. In Milan, Florence and Rome it snows less than once every decade, while Naples has never recorded snowfall in its history – though it does get foggy from time to time! The Alps are likely to be covered in snow for at least half of winter making them an ideal place for skiing.
Spring (March-May) – Springtime temperatures rise slightly above those of winter with average highs of around 18°C (64°F). During springtime there are often rain showers which bring freshness and colour to the landscape but can also cause flooding if they occur during heavy storms.
The best way to dress for a day of sightseeing in Rome is to wear comfortable clothing that doesn’t look too touristy. While you won’t be able to avoid looking like a tourist in the city, you can minimize it by wearing clothes that don’t scream “I’m from America!” or “I’m from Canada!”.
Tourist Wear
The first thing to know about what to wear in Rome is that there is no such thing as “tourist wear”. All tourists dress like tourists, whether they’re wearing bright colors or muted ones. The key is not to look like you’re trying too hard. If anything, go with neutral colors so that your outfit won’t stand out so much against the beautiful Roman landscape.
Formal Wear
There’s no need for formal wear when touring Rome’s historic sites, unless you’re attending an event or going out at night. Most of Rome’s attractions are free and open year-round, so even if you’re visiting during the off-season (December through March), there will still be plenty of things to do and see without having to worry about dressing up!
For this day, wear something that is comfortable and easy to move around in. You will be walking around all day, so you want to make sure your shoes are comfortable and easy to walk in. It’s always good to wear sunscreen on your face and shoulders, especially if you are getting sun exposure for long periods of time. You may find yourself sweating from the heat, so make sure you have a small bag with wipes or hand sanitizer and of course sunscreen with SPF.
Tourist Day can get hot, so make sure you bring plenty of water. The best thing about this event is that it allows you to be outside all day long, but sometimes it can get really hot! So bring plenty of water and snacks too!
