Sports day is coming up, and you want to look your best. That’s why we’re here to give you some tips on what to wear!

What to Wear on Sports Day

We all know that sports day is coming up, and you’re probably wondering what to wear.

Everyone has their own style, but there are a few things that we’ve found work well for everyone.

First, make sure you have comfortable shoes. Your feet will get sore if you don’t!

Second, make sure your clothes are comfortable and easy to move in. Don’t wear anything too tight or restrictive.

Finally, try to look like yourself! Your outfit should be something that makes you feel good about yourself and makes other people feel good about themselves when they see you wearing it—not just your teammates or the other parents in the stands!

When you’re a kid, sports day is the best.

You get to run around with your friends and play games, and everyone is just so happy.

But then when you get older, sports days are kinda weird. They’re still really fun and exciting to be a part of, but they’re also kind of stressful—and if you’re not careful, they can make you feel like an outsider.

So what should you wear? What do people expect? Do they care if you wear jeans instead of shorts? Do they care if it’s not exactly what they’d recommend? And most importantly: how do I fit in?

Well, we’ve got answers for all those questions—and more!

Sports day is one of the most exciting days of the school year. It’s a way for students to show off their hard work and dedication, as well as their team spirit. But before you can cheer on your classmates, you need to know what to wear!

Here are some tips on what to wear on sports day:

-Dress in layers! You’ll need something warm if it’s cold outside, or something cool if it’s hot outside.

-Wear comfortable shoes.

-Plan ahead—you don’t want to be stuck without the right gear at the last minute!

Sneakers, sporty socks, sunglasses, a watch, and a sports duffel will help you create an athletic vibe. Wear athletic socks with your shoes. Whether you like tall to-the-knee socks or short, no-shows, your socks can help create that sporty look.

What to Wear on Sports Day

You don’t have to be the star of your school’s basketball team to rock athletic wear. Dressing sporty to school is something anyone can do—and sporty clothes are super comfortable! Stick to casual garments like T-shirts, athletic shorts, and sneakers to look sporty any day of the week with ease.

Method
1
Selecting Sporty Items
Image titled Dress Sporty to School Step 1.jpeg
1
Choose clothes and hats that advertise sports teams. You can find tons of shirts, pants, hoodies, socks, and hats that advertise your favorite sports teams. Stock up on these types of items so you always have something sporty in your closet.
A team T-shirt or hoodie would pair well with sweatpants or jeans.
2
Look for pieces with athletic details or logos. Choose tops and bottoms from brands like Nike, Puma, Adidas, and Under Armour to show your sporty style. Also, look for athletic details like stripes, which are a classic sporty element. Rubberized or bungee-style zipper pulls also create an athletic vibe.[1]
A Puma T-shirt, jeans, and Puma shoes is an easy go-to outfit.
3
Select breathable fabrics. Whether you actually plan to play a sport or not, choosing light, breathable fabrics that wick away sweat, like cotton, Lycra, or microfiber, give you an athletic vibe. Plus, they’re super comfy![2]
Wear black Lycra yoga pants and a jersey or team T-shirt any day of the week.

4
Don’t be afraid to choose bright colors. Just because you want to look sporty doesn’t mean you have to stick to all neutrals. Choose clothes in your favorite hues, whether they are neons or pastels.
Try wearing a bright pink polo shirt, a white tennis skirt, and white sneakers.
Alternatively, opt for neon green basketball shorts, a black tank, and black Converse.
Tip: Choose a single colorful item to make it the focal point of your outfit.

1
Pick tops that look like jerseys to create an athletic feel. Even if you don’t have a uniform, you can still look like you do! Look for shirts with large numbers across the front and/or back that mimic jerseys. You can find these in a wide range of colors and styles, so choose a few that you like the best and make them a staple in your wardrobe.[3]
If you have an oversize jersey, pair it with fitted pants to balance out your look. Add some sneakers and you’re good to go.
For a girlier outfit, try wearing a jersey dress with a cute pair of Converse shoes. If it’s cold out, put a pair of solid-colored tights on underneath your dress.
2
Select T-shirts or tanks for a laidback vibe. T-shirts are a staple of a sporty wardrobe and you can pick ones in any color or style you like. Solid color shirts and those with athletic logos or team names on them are your best bet. Tank tops are also a great sporty option for the summer. Loose shirts create a more casual feel while fitted tops are great if you want to look a little more put together.
If you like a preppier vibe, pair polos with shorts or jeans.
3
Toss on athletic shorts if the weather is nice. Athletic shorts are a great way to look sporty, so buy several options so you always have a pair on hand. They pair well with T-shirts and sneakers. Choose a longer style (like basketball shorts) if you like a more conservative look or if your school’s dress code doesn’t allow shorter options.
A white T-shirt with blue and white shorts creates a classic, sporty look. Finish off your look with white sneakers and a visor or ball cap.
4
Select loose-fitting pants for a relaxed look. Sweatpants or joggers are a great option as they’re actually made for working out. If you want to give off a laid-back vibe, toss on a T-shirt and pair of sweats for the school day. Finish off your look with a baseball cap or sunglasses.[4]
5
Wear leggings or jeans if you like fitted bottoms. Just because you want to look sporty doesn’t mean you have to wear baggy clothes. Fitted leggings (if your school allows them) or jeans work well with sporty tops and accessories since they have a casual feel.
A T-shirt advertising your favorite sports team and jeans would work well for a school day. Strap on a sporty watch and grab your backpack before heading out the door.
A long jersey would look great over a pair of leggings. Add a pair of sunglasses and some sneakers to complete your outfit.
6
Choose a golf or tennis skirt for a more feminine look. Dressing sporty doesn’t mean you can’t wear a skirt or dress! Just opt for styles that have an athletic feel, like a golf or tennis skirt. Pair it with a polo in a complementary color for a preppy vibe.[5]
Tip: Tone down the girly vibe of a dress or skirt by wearing it with sneakers!

7
Opt for a tracksuit for an easy option. Tracksuits practically scream “sporty” and you can find them in tons of colors and finishes. Wear both the pants and jacket together, or mix and match the pieces to create different outfit options.[6]
For instance, wear a pair of track pants with a neutral-colored shirt or toss a track jacket on over a T-shirt and a pair of jeans.
8
Wear your sports uniform, if you have one, on game days. If you actually play a sport—whether it’s lacrosse, volleyball, soccer, football, hockey, or softball—wearing your uniform is one of the easiest ways to look sporty. Only wear your uniform if it makes sense to, though, such as if you have a game after school that day.
If you play a team sport, see if your teammates want to coordinate so you can all wear your uniforms together and show some real school spirit.
Ask your coach about wearing your uniform to school to make sure it’s okay.

Adding Accessories
1
Stock up on sneakers. Sneakers are the best footwear option if you want to look sporty. That doesn’t mean you have to wear the same pair day after day, though! Get a few different colors and styles so you’ll always have the perfect shoes to match your outfit.[7]
For instance, a pair of black and white Nikes would pretty much go with anything, while a pair of neon Converse would really make a statement.
Avoid wearing dress shoes or heels as they don’t really give off a sporty vibe.
Tip: If you have to wear a uniform to school, pair it with sporty accessories! Sneakers, sporty socks, sunglasses, a watch, and a sports duffel will help you create an athletic vibe.

2
Wear athletic socks with your shoes. Whether you like tall to-the-knee socks or short, no-shows, your socks can help create that sporty look. You can choose socks made from cotton, acrylic, or synthetic materials. Look for details like vertical stripes or sports logos in colors that complement your sneakers.
3
Add layers in colder weather. You can still look sporty even if it’s not summer time. Opt for pants like jeans or joggers, wear a long-sleeved shirt, and toss on a hoodie or varsity jacket to keep warm. A beanie, thick socks, and waterproof sneakers are the perfect finishing touches.[8]
A raglan shirt underneath a zip-up hoodie and jeans is a great outfit for school in the winter.
If you want to rock a dress, skirt, or shorts, wear tights or leggings underneath to combat the chill.
4
Top off your look with sunglasses or a baseball cap or visor. Hats are the perfect accessory for sporty looks! Whether you choose a plain one or a cap that advertises your favorite sports team, it’s a great way to complete your outfit. Sunglasses are another accessory you can wear—just be sure to choose a sporty style, like a pair of polarized lenses in plastic frames.[9]
If you can’t wear a hat in class, just put it on during your lunch break or when you’re outside.
During the school day, simply slip your sunglasses on top of your head.
5
Carry a duffel or backpack to hold all your gear. Duffel bags are large enough to hold all your school supplies and sports gear, so they make a great alternative to backpacks. No matter what kind of bag you choose, look for one with sporty details, such as stripes or a brand logo. Pick one in a neutral color so it matches all of your outfits.[10]
6
Wear a waterproof watch if you have one. Watches are an athletic accessory that can take your look to the next level. Rather than choosing a flashy metal watch, opt for something that a real athlete would wear, such as a black waterproof watch.[11]
If you play a sport or train frequently, a watch that monitors your hear rate and activity level could be useful. If you run or cycle, a GPS watch might be your best bet.
7
Keep your jewelry to a minimum. You’ll have to take off your jewelry to play most sports, so keep that in mind if you’re going for a sporty look. You can leave out the jewelry all together or choose 1 or 2 understated pieces. For instance, a pair of stud earrings, a single bracelet, or a simple necklace would finish off your outfit nicely.
Avoid wearing big or flashy pieces of jewelry.

No matter your style preferences, there are fun, easy spring looks you can put together for any occasion. Just don’t forget to prepare for all those April showers by carrying an umbrella!

Method
1
Creating a Casual Look
Choose floral patterns and pastels to celebrate the season. It’s time to put away your dark fall and winter colors. Spring is the time when nature blossoms, so look for pieces of clothing that feature flowers, leaves, and pale colors. Additionally, opt for light-weight fabrics like cotton or linen, since the weather is warming up.[1]
Flower prints like daisies or pansies are cute for spring.
Similarly, pale yellow, lavender, light pink, and sky blue are great spring colors.
2
Wear a simple lightweight dress for an easy option. Dresses are a classic spring look that never go out of style. Pick a mini or thigh-length dress for a cute weekend look, or go with a knee-length or midi-length dress if you want something a little more dressed up.[2]
Leave your legs bare if it’s warm out.
If it’s cool, wear a pair of opaque tights. For extra fun, pick a bright color that plays off your dress.
Tip: The maxi dress is a cute spring style because it’s flowy and lightweight but still covers a lot of skin. Wear a maxi dress if you want a fun spring look that’s also a bit warmer.

3
Keep it simple with a top and shorts or a skirt. T-shirts are great for spring, but you might also enjoy wearing a cotton or linen top. Pair your top with shorts for an easy weekend look—5 in (13 cm) shorts are a great length that’s flattering on a lot of different body types.[3] If you want to dress up, opt for a cute skirt.[4]
Try a solid-colored T-shirt with shorts, a mini skirt, or a midi skirt.
Wear a band or logo T-shirt with denim shorts or a denim skirt.
Pair a printed short-sleeved or sleeveless top with khaki or denim shorts or a flowy skirt.
4
Pair a polo shirt with khakis or denim. A polo shirt looks great for a casual work or weekend look. Choose a polo shirt that’s a bright, fun color, such as a pastel. Wear it over a pair of khakis or denim pants or shorts.[5]
For instance, you might wear a salmon-colored polo shirt, a pair of long khakis, and a brown belt to work.
For a fun weekend look, you could pair a bright yellow polo with a pair of denim shorts.
5
Go with long pants instead of shorts or a skirt if it’s chilly outside. Spring is a transitional season, so there will still be cool weather some days. If it’s cool out, cover more skin with a pair of pants. Try a denim style or khakis for an easy option that’s great for spring.[6]
Denim and khakis both work for a weekend or casual work look. However, you might also try white pants or a solid pastel color.
6
Wear sandals on a warm spring day. With the warmer weather, sandals are back in style. Pick an upscale sandal for a dressy or professional look. If you prefer something more casual, go with a walking sandal.[7]
Sandals look great with shorts, skirts, and dresses.

7
Choose sneakers for a relaxed look. Sneakers are a popular spring style that pairs great with any casual outfit. White sneakers are a season staple, but you can also play around with colors.[8]
Pair a sneaker like Converse low-tops with shorts and a t-shirt or a solid-colored dress.
Wear your white sneakers with a polo and shorts, denim styles, or even a dress.
8
Play around with colorful jewelry. You don’t need to wear jewelry to be stylish, but it can be a fun way to enhance your style. For spring, choose brightly colored jewelry to evoke the season. Play around with necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.[9]
If you’re creating a casual look, choose a few pieces to accessorize your look. You might wear a bangle bracelet or a long necklace with a pair of earrings.
Tip: You can also wear jewelry to work, but keep it simple. You could wear a pair of bright stud earrings or a pendant on a chain.

9
Protect your eyes with a pair of sunglasses. Since spring brings warmer weather, you’ll likely spend more time outside. Make sure you’re wearing sunglasses to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. Choose a pair of sunglasses that provide 100% UV protection.[10]
Big frames are typically a cute look for spring.
Try on different pairs of sunglasses and choose one that flatters your face shape.

Looking Professional
1
Pick blouses or button-ups made with light-weight fabric. You might find yourself sweating through the work clothes you’ve worn all winter, so it’s time to break out the thin fabrics. Choose breathable, flowy tops that will allow you to cool off on warm afternoons. Look for lighter colors, like white and pastels, as well as fun floral prints.[11]
For instance, you might opt for a white button-up with a pair of khakis or a khaki skirt. Just make sure your white shirt isn’t see-through![12]
If you like patterns, you might try a paisley print button up or blouse. Similarly, you could try a floral linen top in a pastel color palette.
If you like feminine blouses, try a top panel over a camisole for a classic warm-weather look.
2
Choose khaki, grey, brown, or linen slacks for your workwear. Try to avoid darker colors during the spring because lighter colors are more “in” during this season. Build your work wardrobe around light-colored pants instead. Khakis are an obvious choice and come in a range of tones, from off-white to dark tan. You might also try basic or plaid grey or brown pants, as well as light-weight linen pants.[13]
For instance, you might wear a white button-up shirt over a pair of light grey plaid pants.
Similarly, you could pair a pastel plaid shirt with a pair of khakis.
Tip: You might also try pastel-colored pants if you’re feeling playful. For instance, a cute pair of pink pants will look great with everything from a white button-up to a fitted grey t-shirt.

3
Try a midi skirt for a cute spring work look. A midi skirt will hit between your knees and ankles, so it’s a very professional style. Pair your midi skirt with a nice fitted t-shirt or a blouse. Choose a solid-colored top if your skirt has a pattern or a patterned top if your skirt is plain.[14]
For instance, you might wear a floral midi skirt with a cute pink blouse or a solid purple midi skirt with a paisley print top.
4
Play around with capri pants to stay cool and professional. If your workplace allows it, capri pants are a great option for spring. Pick khaki, grey, pastel-colored, or plaid capris for a professional look. Pair your capris with a button-up top or blouse.[15]
For instance, you might wear a white short-sleeved button-up with lavender capris or grey plaid capris.
You could also pair a sleeveless blouse with your capris.

Wear flats to dress up your outfit while staying comfortable. Dressy flats are a very flexible shoe because you can wear them with practically anything. Choose them for an everyday work shoe. Go with a neutral color or play around with spring colors and patterns.[16]
You might pair flat dress shoes with a pair of khakis and a button-up. If you wear dresses and skirts, flats will be the perfect pairing.
Tip: You can also wear ballet flats to dress up your casual spring looks. For instance, you can pair flats with a dressy top and shorts, a cute spring dress, or a top and skirt ensemble.

6
Opt for open-toed shoes for a cute dressed-up spring style. Because the weather is warming up, spring is the perfect time to break out your open-toed shoes. Stick to brighter or lighter colors for your shoes, like beige, pink, or red. Pair them with either your work looks or casual styles.[17]
For instance, you might wear a pale blue pair of open-toed heels with a skirt and blouse to work. On the weekend, pair your open-toed shoes with a skirt or shorts.

Layering on Cool Days
1
Wear a sweater or light jacket on chilly days. Layering is essential on spring days because the weather can easily shift between cool and warm. After you select a cute warm-weather look, throw on a lightweight jacket, windbreaker, or sweater to banish the chill. Later, you can remove your top layer to stay cool in the warm part of the day.[18]
You might wear an open-weave sweater over a cute spring dress.
If you’re wearing a top and shorts, a skirt, or pants, try a denim jacket, hoodie, or button-up sweater.
When you’re shopping for spring, look for pieces you can layer in a variety of different ways. That way, you’ll have a wider range of outfits, and you’ll be able to stay comfortable even if the temperature changes.[19]
2
Pair a lightweight cardigan with a blouse or dress. A cardigan can keep you warm during the cool parts of the day and in an air-conditioned workspace. Additionally, it helps your spring styles look more professional. Choose a neutral-colored cardigan for an everyday look or add a stylish flair by picking one that complements the colors in your outfit.[20]
For instance, you might get a light grey or beige cardigan for spring that will go with most outfits.
On the other hand, you might prefer to get a range of colors so that each outfit has a matching option. You could wear a lavender cardigan over a purple floral dress or a yellow cardigan over a yellow polka dot blouse.
3
Choose a thin blazer that will look stylish while keeping you cool. Blazers are a classic work style, and they look great for any season. Pick a blazer that’s a neutral color for an easy option or opt for a color that matches your outfit. Throw on a blazer with a button-up and pants, a skirt ensemble, or a dress.[21]
White, grey, navy, brown, and tan blazers will all work great for neutral colors during spring.
You might wear a navy blazer with a white button-up and khakis.
If you like bright colors, you might pair a yellow blazer with a solid colored button-up or a patterned blouse.
4
Wear a thin trench coat or day coat if it’s cool outside. Spring will likely have a few cold days, so keep warm with a nice, lightweight overcoat. Choose a style like a trench or day coat that’s flexible but professional. Khaki is a popular choice, but you could also try grey, navy, or bright colors.[22]
For an easy stylish look, stick to a classic khaki trench coat.
If you want to invest in a few key spring pieces, a brightly colored light-weight coat might be a great option. Try a pastel color for a fun look.

Staying Dry on Rainy Days
Image titled Dress for Spring Step 7
1
Carry an umbrella if the forecast predicts rain. Spring is typically a very rainy season, so it’s a good idea to have an umbrella handy. Keep an umbrella by your front door or in your bag so you have it at hand. Choose a plain umbrella if you want to keep things simple, or go for a fun print.[23]
For instance, a cute polka dot print, cat print, heart print, or dinosaur print could brighten up a rainy day.
2
Wear a raincoat to stay dry. Along with your umbrella, throw on a raincoat to protect your outfit and keep you warm. Pick a solid-colored raincoat in a neutral color or a color that matches a lot of your clothing so that it pairs with any outfit. That’ll make it easy to wear it both to work and over the weekend.[24]
For instance, you might pick a yellow, tan, or navy raincoat.
3
Keep a pair of rain boots for wet days. Spring is typically a rainy season, so be prepared! Make sure you have tall rain boots that are leak-free so you can protect your tootsies on rainy days.[25]
You might carry your work shoes in your bag and wear your rain boots so your feet will be dry when you get to work or school.
Pick a solid colored pair of boots or go for a cute print, like polka dots.
