Summer is the season of bare legs, ice cream cones, and—if you’re like most women—periods. But what do you do when you’re out in public and your period decides to rear its ugly head? Do you hide in the bathroom until it’s over? Do you wear an extra pad or tampon so that no one notices? Or do you just deal with it and hope nobody notices? Well, we have some ideas for outfits to wear on your period in the summer that will help keep your secret safe!

First of all, don’t forget about your underwear. If you’re going to be wearing white jeans or shorts (or any other light-colored bottoms), make sure to wear dark underwear so nobody can see through them. You should also wear black leggings or tights under any light-colored pants or shorts so that blood doesn’t show through.

If it’s hot outside and you need to wear shorts or a skirt, consider wearing a skirt over your pants as well—just be sure it isn’t too long so people can’t tell there’s something underneath! And finally… if all else fails, just say “Yeah okay I have my period” with a smile on your face

Outfits to Wear on your Period in the Summer

The world doesn’t wait around for our first day of period to be over. Life goes on and sometimes we have to get out of bed and deal with life. During the first couple of days sometimes walking is a struggle, not to mention our mental health that goes down the drain.

Besides not being in the mood to pick out an outfit, our bloated tummies can’t handle high-waisted pants and tight uncomfortable fits. We wanted to gather for you some options for comfy, first/second day period outfit ideas for when your cycle begins.

We also wanted to make sure it’s not all sweatpants and tracksuits. Sometimes we have places to go to and we want to feel good about ourselves, the bloating is enough to ruin our self esteem. Besides throwing on sunglasses to hide the puffy period face and breakouts, you can try out jumpsuits or dungarees. They give you the easy breeziness of a dress but with a little more support and comfort.

If your first days are like the opening of flood gates, you can avoid dresses and anything white. You can dress up in full on active wear with yoga pants and a comfy tee, but if you have an important event coming up, you can try a chic, flowy, nonrestrictive dress like the one in slide 19 worn by Noha el Sherbiny.

f you’re anything like me, you probably want to curl up in your PJs with some ice cream when you get your period during summer. It’s hot, I’m uncomfortable, and my normal go-to outfits just aren’t fitting me right. But of course, there are days where we have to brave through and face the world.

It takes a lot of work for me to put together cohesive outfits as it is. When I’m on my period, I’m typically just looking for outfits that fit comfortably and that conceal everything. Until now, that has meant palazzo pants and a tshirt. This summer, though, my social calendar is at an all time high. That means I need to find clothes that not only make me feel confident, but also fit my body as it changes while on my period. After scouring my closet, I put together two outfits that encompass what it means to find my fit during that time of the month.

Keep reading to see what I’m wearing while on my period this summer, and to learn about the Always MyFit sizing system for the ultimate comfort and protection.

The first outfit is all about layering basics. I started out with a thin white camisole tucked into a cotton circle skirt. Since the skirt is high-waisted, it cinches me at my smallest point and all of the bloating in my lower-abdomen is hidden. I also don’t feel restricted at all since the skirt swings out at the hips.

I threw a chambray top over the camisole, which is a bit looser even when tied at the waist. Again, this accentuates my shape while being loose enough on top, giving me more coverage for when I feel self-conscious. I rolled up the sleeves to accommodate for the warmer weather, though layering also gives you the freedom to completely remove it if the temperature rises throughout the day.

My next outfit is a little more conservative for laid-back days when I still want to feel like myself. Again, I’m wearing a very light camisole tucked into some high-waisted, light wash jeans. Since the jeans hit just above my belly button, I’m relieved from worrying about bloating and they don’t dig into where I’m cramping the most.

This lightweight, flowy kimono gives me a ton of coverage and adds color to an otherwise simple look. The kimono is thin enough that I don’t get hot while I’m wearing it, and it gives me the feeling of being in a comfy robe while looking a little more acceptable in public!

You probably didn’t expect short skirts, skinny jeans and light washes, did you? These cute and comfy outfit choices all come with the assumption that you’re using the right type of feminine care so that you’re not worrying about leaks or comfort. Did you know that 60% of women wear the wrong size pad, which is one of the main reasons that 80% of women experience leaks every month? No wonder we’re less motivated to channel our true style while on our period! Always is changing that by introducing their new sizing system called Always My Fit. The new pad sizes are based on both your flow and panty size— because the better a pad fits, the better it protects. They’re the only brand to offer this type of sizing, and I am surprised it wasn’t done sooner. It makes so much sense!

The new pads are sized from 1-5 to determine the best front-to-back coverage for you. Check out the top of the packaging to see the sizing chart. During the day, I’m a size 2 since I wear a size M in panties, and I only wear pads when my flow is light to moderate. I use a size 4 for overnight, which is the perfect fit to give me enough coverage without making me feel like I’m wearing a diaper.

Wearing the right size pad can open up so many doors when it comes to outfits to wear on your period. One size fits all is a thing of the past. With this simple Cosmo style quiz, I’ve always made it easy for you to find your fit—take a look and let me know what you think!

Outfits to Wear to School on your Period

1 DARK JEANS

If you’re worried about blood seeping through your clothes, you should stay away from wearing white. If any accidents happen, then there’d be a big spot on your jeans. That’s why you should stick to wearing dark pants. The darker and thicker the fabric is, the less noticeable any stains will be. That way, you won’t have to worry if you leak a little.

2 A LONG SHIRT

If you have your heart set on wearing light colored jeans, then you should at least wear a long shirt. That way, it’ll cover your crotch, which means you won’t be able to see any stains. Plus, oversized shirts are usually more comfy, which means you won’t be aggravated all day long. 85

3 LEGGINGS WITH A SKIRT

Most women are terrified to wear skirts and dresses on their period. However, that shouldn’t be the case. As long as you wear leggings beneath your skirt, you’ll have nothing to worry about. You’re just as protected as you’d be if you were wearing pants. Plus, leggings always look amazing, so you don’t have to worry about sacrificing your fashion sense during that time of the month. 9

4 HAREM PANTS

Everything about these pants looks comfortable. That’s why they’re perfect for wearing on the days when your cramps are killing you. The waistband won’t feel tight against your stomach, so you won’t feel like you’re being confined. Of course, you’ll still look fashionable.

5 SWEATPANTS

Who says you can’t look sexy in sweatpants? There are plenty of ladies who wear their sweats to school or to the grocery store, so you won’t look odd. As long as you pair those pants with a cute shirt, people won’t even notice that your bottom half is underdressed.
