Best Ddp Yoga Workout For Weight Loss

DDP Yoga is a great way to lose weight and get in shape. It’s an exercise routine that combines yoga, strength training, and cardio into one workout.

The program was created by Diamond Dallas Page, who was once a professional wrestler and now a motivational speaker. The DDP Yoga program consists of five levels: beginner, intermediate, expert, master, and championship. Each level has 10 workouts. The workouts can be performed at home or at the gym.

DDP Yoga is good for people who have trouble finding time to exercise because it only requires 30 minutes per day. It’s also good for people who are new to working out because there are modifications for every move in each workout so anyone can do them without worrying about hurting themselves if they don’t have much experience with lifting weights or doing high-intensity cardio exercises like running on a treadmill at high speeds with high resistance levels set on the machine (this is what most gyms nowadays recommend for losing weight fast).

Best Ddp Yoga Workout For Weight Loss

DDP Yoga or Diamond Dallas Page Yoga, is known as a popular fitness regime used to increase flexibility, burn fat, reduce pain, improve mental capacity, increase metabolism, and strengthen muscles – especially those who are injured. This is through their inclusion of yoga, which is considered low impact and anaerobic exercise that can be done in the comfort of your home, at your own leisure and speed.

This hybrid yoga system comes with a set of engaging videos, which range from beginner instructions to advanced or some would say, extreme. Some of the video sessions are only for 5 min – 15 max, while other videos go to more than one hour. With each video, the students need to have a heart monitor and a yoga mat. For each pose, the instructor makes suggestions and tips about nutrition, posture, and a host of other essential things.

Before learning more about this program, let’s see what the research has to say about some of the exercises used in this program:

  • Obesity (Silver Spring): Yoga may have a beneficial effect on weight-loss.
  • Journal of Alternative and Comparative Medicine: This study shows that exercise and yoga are both instrumental in improving mental and physical health.
  • Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine: Yoga workouts can be beneficial to individuals wanting to lose weight.

Who Created DDP Yoga?

DDP Yoga, Inc is the creator of this special kind of yoga product.  It has an “NR” rating or “No Rating” from the BBB. The company is located in Smyrna, Georgia and specializes in yoga class instructions. Created by former American wrestler Diamond Dallas Page when he developed a system to rehabilitate his own injuries after a heavyweight championship run, the system comes with the movements of power yoga, a high-octane version fit for cardio.

The creator added calisthenics, therapeutic stretching, isokinetic and core strengthening exercises, dropped the names and meditation, and initially called it YRG: Yoga for Normal Boys, until he changed it to Diamond Dallas Page, or DDP Yoga. He healed himself and resumed fighting, winning more championships after his return.

However, Page was as interested in motivation as he was in perfecting his craft, and so he offered to teach his method to his injured friends on the wrestling circuit and to war veterans. When disabled Iraq War veteran Arthur Boorman lost nearly 140 pounds with the system, it is said that he regained his ability to walk.

As of 2022, The Better Business Bureau (BBB) reports DDP Yoga is no longer in business.

DDP Yoga Claims

DDP has put out several claims, one of which is the fact that his particular yoga method can build core muscles and reduce fat, restore range of motion and flexibility, improve balance and provide ongoing motivation to students.

The program claims the result of their system is an athlete physique with rock hard abs. The target consumer has always been injured men unable to handle the rigorous movements associated with a normal fitness regimen.

The creator claims that the system is generally more appealing because many clients have tried it and have seen the physical results in a reasonable amount of time.

DDP Yoga Equipment

In order to properly complete the DDP Yoga program, you will need a couple of things, including a yoga mat and a heart monitor.

You also need to have a computer or DVD Player to do the actual workouts. It is important to have sufficient ground space to work out and water to keep hydrated as well.

DDP Yoga Workouts

The workout comes with four sets of DVDs, which are sold for $87.99. It comes with 3 months free on the DDP YOGA Now app so you can take advantage of progress tracking, cooking demos, live workouts, and weekly motivational videos! The videos have 11 unique exercises, ranging from an initial 10-minute routine known as “Wake Up” to a more challenging routine known as “Strength Builder.”

For a more intense workout, one of the DVDs features the “Double Black Diamond” session, which runs up to forty minutes. Students are recommended to invest in the separate 13-week program, starting from the beginner level to the advanced level, which includes dynamic resistance training.  Although research notes that resistance training may improve strength, there is no guarantee this specific program is able to do so.

Used along with the 4 DVD set, the program guides the user through the specific workouts, postures, and nutrition recommendations. A poster comes with the package showing the various postures most frequently used in the videos.

DDP Yoga and Weight Loss

The workout routines associated with this type of workout includes a variety of plank poses, lunges, and yoga slow burn pushups. The creator claims that these workouts and poses help to tone the quads, cores, shoulders, arms, and chest.
However, most research involving core exercises and yoga movements, including one study published in Complementary Therapies in Medicine, noted these movements to increase strength without mentioning weight loss.

Within the program, there is a wide range of dynamic resistance exercises, specifically for strengthening the muscles. One study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association gives an in-depth look at the effects of dynamic resistance as a stand-alone training and notes its cardiovascular benefits.

There is some general information that supports the connection between yoga and weight. Research published in Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine noted that yoga programs may be able to help maintain weight loss and improve body composition as a whole.

Another study published in Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine noted that “…yoga could offer diverse behavioral, physical, and psychosocial effects that may make it a useful tool for weight loss.” Overall, yoga is considered a safe weight-loss option for both obese and overweight individuals, according to Preventative Medicine.

Bottom Line on DDP Yoga Results

For a moderately tiny investment of your money, effort, and time, this system is said to provide you with a reasonable and safe method of working out to get toned. Some of the research supports yoga aiding in weight-loss, but there isn’t much information on how this specific program can help.

Plus, the system can be quite expensive, which is why is important to choose a program that is comprehensive and is actually backed by multiple clinical studies.

One of the best clinically-backed weight-loss programs we have ever seen is one called Noom, which uses psychology to help users make lasting weight change. Custom meal plans, 1:1 health coaching, educational lessons, daily goals, and health tracking tools are just a few of the features offered in the app. Plus, with Noom you can take advantage of a free trial offer for a limited time.

Level 1: Rebuild

Ability Level – Unable or have difficulty getting down to the floor.

DDPY Rebuild is a unique program designed specifically for those 55 years and older and those who struggle with limited mobility. Through a progressive series of workouts, you’ll build strength, increase flexibility, decrease pain, and turn back the hands of time. If you’re ready to REBUILD YOUR LIFE, then DDPY Rebuild is the perfect fit. You’ll be able to start without even getting out of bed. Through stretches and body-weight movements you’ll start to break up scar tissue and get moving again. Next, you’ll go through a series of seated chair workouts and finish with workouts that have you standing, but using a chair for support.

BED FLEX

A perfect starting point if you’re injured, have trouble sitting or standing upright, are recovering in bed or just haven’t been active for a long while. Each Bed Flex workout is intended to increase flexibility, loosen joints, and strengthen your core muscles to make sitting up easier. The goal is to regain mobility and become strong enough to progress to the Chair Force series.

CHAIR FORCE

A good starting point if you struggle with balance or have trouble standing for long periods of time. While staying seated in a chair, you will get your legs and upper body moving using stretches and Dynamic Resistance. You’ll be surprised how much you can get your blood pumping without getting up! When you feel strong enough, you can move on to the Stand Strong series.

STAND STRONG

Once your body is strong enough to stand, you can graduate to Stand Strong. You will be focusing on your balance while standing, utilizing the chair for added stability. This series is based on the techniques used by disabled vet Arthur Boorman as he transitioned from canes and leg braces to walking and even running unassisted after years of being told it was impossible.

Level 2: Combo Pack

How Long Are Ddp Yoga Workouts

I often have a chuckle at the ads on the teleshopping features that always seem to pop up on early-morning TV. They often promise the best new form of exercise or piece of equipment that provides almost instant results. I’m sure you’ve seen the ads for the ‘AbMaster 3000’ or the ‘Bodacious Booty Builder X’ (fictional names…I hope!) or even a tea that guarantees to melt away stubborn belly fat (give me strength!) Can DDP Yoga be added to this list of flash in the pan, ‘expect to see results within five minutes’ exercise systems? Or are you going to have to wait a little longer to achieve your goals? This is exactly what we’ll be investigating in this week’s blog.

What to Expect from DDPY

With regular and consistent practice, there are many amazing benefits to DDPY;

  • Improved strength
  • Increased flexibility and mobility
  • Greater cardiovascular endurance
  • Injury recovery/prevention
  • Improved balance

All of these, and more, in a low-impact workout, meaning little to no stress on the joints or skeletal system as a whole.

What can impact the time it takes to see results?

By no means is this an exhaustive list, but the following are just a few points to be aware of with regards to how long it may take to see real results with DDPY;

Training volume – The intensity and frequency of training are always going to play a huge role in how quickly or not you see results. Who’s going to achieve their goals first, someone who trains once a week, or someone who is training four or five times a week? You’d be right to think the latter. For an absolute beginner, training only twice per week may be enough to get the ball rolling but generally starting training three times per week is going to be the best place to start for most people. The DDPY programme guide starts you at this level, and within time builds up to four, five and even six workouts per week. Regardless of your baseline fitness, the initial rest days will be required as your body becomes accustomed to the new stress being applied to it. Once the muscular, skeletal and nervous systems are more conditioned you can start to increase your training volume, which will accelerate you towards your goal.

Diet – sorry to be the one to break it to you, but you’re planning on scoffing multiple meal deals from a fast food restaurant, washing it down with litres of carbonated drinks and topping it off with tubs of ice cream – you’re probably not going to reach your goals as quickly as you’d like. Working out the correct macronutrient balance is likely to be key, as is the quality of the food you consume. Make sure you are consuming enough calories and protein, in particular. For me, with the injuries I was dealing with when I started DDPY, I worked hard to remove many foodstuffs that caused inflammation. This inflammation was affecting my gut health and seemed to play a role in a number of the injuries I was suffering from. Many people won’t realise that inflammation is impacting their ability to exercise, so being aware of this and taking measures to address it could be pivotal in your progress.

Recovery – adequate sleep, rest, warm-ups and cool-downs and other recovery tactics play a huge role in progress, or lack therefore, with your DDPY practice. Muscles and connective tissues strengthen during rest periods – especially during sleep, so depriving yourself of those essential z’s may be holding you back. The way you structure your workouts is also really important – ensure you warm-up and cool-down to decrease the likelihood of injury. Injuries often mean needing to take time off, which is obviously going to hold you back. Other things you can do include icing painful joints post-workout and taking magnesium baths to soothe aching muscles. The quicker and more effectively you can recover, the more you’ll be able to apply yourself in the workouts. Application equals results!

Consistency – be consistent with all of the above. Workout as the programme guide suggests. Ensure you apply yourself and give your all in every workout. Eat and sleep well to compliment the workouts to really see your results accelerate.

Manage Your Expectations

Don’t be alarmed if you don’t see results in the first few weeks of training, be patient and learn to enjoy the process. Every body is different. My initial hip injury that had bothered me for five years cleared up with a couple of months of practicing DDPY. And yet, I’m still not where I’d like to be flexibility-wise and I’ve been doing these workouts for many years! I started DDPY very open-minded and not just expecting results, I knew I’d have to work hard to achieve them. I’ve since gone from not being able to touch my toes to ALMOST being able to sit down into splits.

I think being open-minded and not expecting miracles is really important. Sometimes a lower back injury will feel dramatically better after one session, sometimes it might take 100! Maybe it will take you a month to reach a weight goal, it might be closer to a year for some people. The programme is designed to heal and strengthen the body and if you treat it with respect and give it time, it will do that.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. Any damage you’ve done to your body isn’t going to be mended in a day. I’ll say it again, but be patient. Enjoy seeing and feeling changes over the weeks, months and years to come. Set goals that are aligned with where you want to be and remember that patience is key. If you’re not seeing developments as quickly as you’d like, remember that if you’re doing the work you’re progressing at the right speed for you. If you’re not doing the work…that is what’s to blame!
